RECIPES - Series No. 2

BANANA GRANOLA PANCAKES

submitted by Leslie Atkins, Chico, CA (by way of Norwich, VT)

I toss some chopped granola and sliced bananas into my favorite pancake batter, top with butter and syrup. Mmmm. Here’s the recipe–

1 c flour
3/4 c whole wheat flour
1/2 t salt
1 T sugar
3 t baking powder
2 eggs
1 1/2 c milk
4 T melted butter

3/4 c. Nutty Steph’s granola
1 thinly sliced ripe banana

Mix the dry ingredients together (flour, salt, sugar, powder); in another bowl mix the wet ingredients well (eggs, milk, melted butter). Add wet to dry and mix lightly. Chop granola (to chop up the nuts); slice banana thinly. Fold granola and banana into batter. (You might need to add milk or flour to get it just right- should be a thick batter to hold the granola and bananas.)

Ladle onto griddle, turn once, eat with maple syrup!

VEGAN APPLE CRISP

submitted by Bentley Brooks

First, finely slice six vermont macintosh apples.

Second, toss with desired amount of cinnamon.

Third, put apples in 8 inch pie plate.

Fourth, fill remainder of pie plate with nutty steph granola.

Next, bake your vegan apple crisp in the oven at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes or until you think the apples are soft.

Finally, ENJOY!

Your granola is the bomb and we love it. ~ Rob Ochitwa, Denver, CO

We've run out of magic chunks and I fear for my life because we have quite a few customers addicted!

~ Sheri Wells, independent owner of City Grounds Coffee Shop

I just got my magic chunks and samples. I think we have had the magic chunks here in the office for two hours and it is almost gone. All I have to say is “WOW” they are great!

magic-chunk-bar.jpg

More people need to know about magic chunks! I think I may order a big bag for my son’s first birthday party. Just wanted you to know how good they are!

Die Hard Nut

These are comments from a customer named Craig Jablonski. I've never met him. The second comment does not reflect particularly well on the company but it does shine a brilliant ray on that gorgeous entity we call Humor.

"Thank you so much for the granola. It's absolutly terrific! I can feel my cholesterol dropping as we speak! I am a little concerned about this "End of the Road Farm" maple syrup, though. Is this a synonym to "Dirt Nap" maple syrup? How 'bout "Pushing Daisies" maple syrup? Maybe "Six Feet Under" maple syrup? Anyway, thanks again for the 'nola. My kids and I will be healthier for it!"

"Recently, I was eating some of your nutty granola and I found a mysterious substance. I took it to a world renowned chemist from, oddly enough, Johns Hopkins named Adam and he told me it was tetrahyclotrimazolethlybenzene. I asked him why I wasn't dead yet and he informed me that it wouldn't kill me but I should keep clean underwear and toilet paper handy.I said at my age I do that anyway. He went on to say I should never eat anything from nutty Steph's again. I suggested you change the name to nutty Staph infection. He agreed.Anyway, I contacted my lawyer but because I shared my granola with him, he was in the bathroom and couldn't return my call. You'll be hearing from the firm Ben, Dover and Takit shortly."

The ideal DELIVERY

innocent.JPG
We don't advertise in print, but since our staff is comprised of ridiculously talented artists, we sometimes use the company for excuses to do photo shoots and other artistic stuff. Trisha Denton, the diva of deliveries, grease and warehouse organization, is so talented that she was able to transform me into a complete granola sexpot. Mmmmmm. Buy some today!

straddle.JPG Here I am getting on the delivery bicycle that doesn't exist

surprise.JPG Ooops! What's wrong with the pedal?

bending.JPG Ooo, this will fix it...

abbeygranola1recpies2.JPG

Start with a graham cracker crust-
Fill with your favorite yogurt-
Top with chunks of your favorite fruit-

*Sprinkle with Nutty Steph’s Vermont Granola!!!

*If you are not going to consume the entire pie in one sitting, you may want to only sprinkle the granola on one piece at a time as it gets soggy on the fruit overnight.

GRANOLA AND ICE CREAM

submitted by Kelly Stettner, Springfield, VT

Well, my favorite way to eat your ‘nola is in a small bowl with gobs of Breyer’s Natural Vanilla ice cream and a generous drizzling of maple syrup. No recipe required, just a strong jaw for all the great nuts! Oh, and I keep my black Lab, Cassie, on hand for cleanup afterward.

HEARTY GRANOLA BREAD

ubmitted by Elizabeth Skypec

This recipe is for people who enjoy playing with their food!

1C Nutty Steph’s granola
1C boiling water
1T canola oil or melted butter
¼ c. maple syrup
2 tsp salt
2 ½ tsp active dry yeast
½ cup lukewarm milk
3 ½ cups flour (can mix white & whole wheat flour)

This makes great toast, if you don’t eat it all as soon as it comes out of the oven. Put the granola in a large bowl. Pour boiling water over it, let stand 15 minutes or until it is lukewarm. Stir in the oil, syrup, salt, yeast and milk. Mix well, then add flour to make a wet dough. It should be fairly sticky …you may not need all the flour. Add the last ½ cup only if the dough is too wet to handle. Use the rest of the flour to dust the surface you’ll knead on. Turn dough onto the floured surface and knead gently until smooth …just keep patting it into a pancake form & flopping over on itself, patting and flopping with increasing gusto as the dough gets smooth and elastic (5 to 10 minutes). Place the dough in an oiled bowl & cover with a clean cloth. Let rise 1 hour. Actually, recipes always call for an oiled bowl and a clean cloth, but you can just put it back in the dirty bowl and cover it with the t-shirt you were wearing when you got up this morning, and it will still rise. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise until the dough fills the corners of the pan and a granola- flecked hump rises over the top of the pan (1 to 1 ½ hours). Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes.

First Lucky Magic Chunk Customers

firstcustomers.JPG

May 2007: A very special sunny Spring Saturday... The grand opening of NUTTYVILLE, our granola outlet store on Route 2 in Montpelier. Lisa Mase and Ryan Case found the welcoming golden walls filled with an array of our crunchy products and left as the lucky purchasers of the very first bar of magic chunks, then called "Your Bar". Thanks Lisa and Ryan!

(If only they'd known then they'd be hooked ever since!)
